Resourcesat-2

Resourcesat-2 is a follow on mission to Resourcesat-1, by ISRO. Compared to Resourcesat-1, LISS-4 multispectral swath has been enhanced from 23 km to 70 km based on user needs. Suitable changes including miniaturization in payload electronics have been incorporated in Resourcesat-2. Resourcesat-2 is slated for launch 20 April 2011[1]. Resourcesat-2 is scheduled to be launched on PSLV-C16, along with Youthsat and X-Sat.

PSLV-C16 successfully launches Resourcesat-2 into orbit

India's PSLV-C16 rocket on Wednesday successfully launched into orbit the latest remote sensing satellite Resourcesat-2 that would study and help manage natural resources along with two nano satellites.
ISRO's homegrown workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle placed in a 'Polar Sun Synchronous Orbit' Resourcesat-2, Youthsat and X-Sat about 18 minutes after it blasted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre launch pad here, 90 km from Chennai, at 10.12 am.
"PSLV-C16 Resourcesat-2 mission is successful," a jubilant Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman K Radhakrishnan announced shortly after all the three satellites were hurled into space one after another 822 km above earth in a text book launch.
The ISRO chief's announcement was cheered by the battery of scientists at the mission control centre who heaved a sigh of relief as they were gripped by an added anxiety following two successive failures of GSLV missions last year.

It offers all of the features found in Windows Vista Home Premium, including Windows Media Center, Windows Movie Maker with high-definition support, and Windows DVD Maker. It also provides all of the features found in Windows Vista Business, including business networking, centralized management tools, and advanced system backup features. Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics

  • Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor has a 1.66 GHz processor speed, super-fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) With two computational execution cores in a single processor, it provides greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
    • Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
    • Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
    • Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
    • Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.
  • Hard Drive: The 200 GB Serial ATA hard drive is about double the average size for notebook PCs, however its 4200 RPM speed is a bit slower than current standard hard drives. It provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
  • Memory: The 2 GB of installed RAM (2 x 1 GB DDR2, PC5300) is an excellent start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It provides two DIMM slots and has a large 4 GB maximum RAM capacity. It also offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. It also includes 1 GB of Intel Turbo Memory, which stores frequently used information near the processor, where it's more quickly available, enabling your notebook to actually learn your habits and thus provide better system response. This entirely new system innovation for Windows Vista PCs is based on Performance Intel NAND Flash Memory (like the memory used in an iPod or USB thumb drive), together with supporting software.
  • DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer Labelflash DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x DVD+R DL, 4x DVD-R DL, 8x for both single-layer DVD+R/-R, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x. With the Labelflash functionality, you can burn high-resolution, high-contrast pictures on the label side of DVD discs using the same laser used for data recording. Enjoy transparency and high-quality not found in traditional printable media. All you need is a Labelflash DVD disc to start labeling without a printer.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 86-key keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad. It also offers CD/DVD media player and control buttons (play, stop, next, previous) as well as a volume control dial.
Screen, Video & Audio
This notebook has a 15.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (native 720p for high-definition viewing). It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 256 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3-D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3-DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays. You'll enjoy booming sound from the built-in Harman Kardon speakers with integrated bass reflex subwoofer. Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with this notebook's integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (though no standard PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options:
  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • Analog video out: 1 S-Video and 1 VGA
  • 1 ExpressCard 54/34
  • 1 headphone jack (1 with S/PDIF digital audio compatibility) and 1 microphone jack

New Gadgets 2011 — Best Android Tablets Coming out Soon

HTC EVO View 4G
On February MWC 2011, HTC has announced its first 7-inch HTC Flyer tablet, and this time, on the CTIA, it has showcased the Sprint version of HTC EVO View 4G that supports the WiMax 4G 4G network.
The Evo View 4G runs a tablet-optimized version of HTC’s Sense interface, on top of Android 2.3. This Android tablet also features 1024 x 600 resolution, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, dual cameras (5-megapixels rear facing and 1.3-megapixels front-facing).

Samsung GALAXY Tab 8.9
Samsung’s 7-inch GALAXY Tab and GALAXY Tab10.1 have been launched one by one. And now, on March, it continues to bring the much lighter and thinner GALAXY Tab8.9 tablet to users.
Samsung GALAXY Tab 8.9 will be the first Honeycomb tablets to stray from the pure Android 3.0 experience and add what Samsung’s taken to calling its TouchWiz UX or TouchWiz 4.0. On top of that, the exciting part here is its unprecedented thinness of just 8.6mm! That’s 0.2mm thinner than the iPad 2, which is the current leader in this aspect. As well, the tablet is just 16.5 oz (470 grams), making it one of the lightest full-sized tablets out there.

LG G-Slate
The T-Mobile G-Slate made by LG runs Android 3.0 and it is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. It features an 8.9-inch HD 3D display and is capable of recording in full HD, as well as 3D, thanks to two rear-facing cameras.

Cars Worldz

Cars produced in the world - sources and methods

The data on global car production displayed on the Worldometers' counter is based on the latest statistics on worldwide car production issued by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA).

A formula based on the current data available, historical trends, and projections is used to estimate total cars produced in the current year.

Because the auto industry is an important sector of the global economy, numerous analysis of sales data and future outlook are issued by financial and economic institutes worldwide.

National trade organizations are surveyed on their annual data by OICA. Each summer, a
survey on the last six months provides a first estimation of the year’s production figures .

Definition of "car" and "production"

By "car" we are referring to passenger cars, which are defined as motor vehicles with at least four wheels, used for the transport of passengers, and comprising no more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat. Cars (or automobiles) make up approximately 87% of the total motor vehicle annual production in the world.
The remaining 13%, not included in this statistics, is made up by light commercial vehicles and heavy trucks (motor vehicles with et least four wheels, used for the carriage of goods), buses, coaches and minibuses (comprising more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat)

By "production" we are following the convention used by national trade organizations and referring to completely built vehicle (CBU) as opposed to assembly of completely knocked down (CKD) or semi-knocked down (SKD) sets when vehicle parts originate in another country.

How many cars are produced in the world every year?

For 2009, global vehicle sales remain in the midst of a precipitous fall-off, led by sharp declines in the mature markets of the United States, Western Europe and Japan. We project total cars produced at 51,971,328.

In 2006 there were
49,886,549 passenger cars produced in the world, with an increase of 6.45% over the previous year. The increase for 2007 was more modest, and 2008 showed a decline. Analysts from various institutes had in fact pegged the year 2007 as the year which would end the 5-year cycle (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) of record global auto sales worldwide.

1999 39,759,847

Which country produces most cars?

A third of all cars in the world is produced in the European Union (see chart below)
China became the world’s third-largest car market in 2006, as car sales in China soared by nearly 40% to 4.1 million units. China should become the world’s second-largest car market by 2010, as low vehicle penetration, rising incomes, greater credit availability and falling car prices lift sales past those of Japan. Furthermore, vehicle penetration in China stands at only 24 vehicles per 1,000 people, compared with 749 vehicles per 1,000 people in the mature markets of the G7.

Microsoft's vision of the Future

Future of Screen Technology

Iphone 4 ;In so many ways its first

Facetime

People have been dreaming about video calling for decades. iPhone 4 makes it a reality. With just a tap, you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories — iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 or to the new iPod touch over Wi-Fi. And it works right out of the box. No other phone makes staying in touch this much fun.

Retina Display

The Retina display on iPhone 4 is the sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution phone screen ever, with four times the pixel count of previous iPhone models. In fact, the pixel density is so high that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. Which makes text amazingly crisp and images stunningly sharp.

Multitasking

iPhone 4 introduces a whole new way of multitasking. Now you can run your favorite third-party apps — and switch between them instantly — without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.1 This smarter approach to multitasking is available only in iOS 4.

HD Video Recording and Editing

Shoot your own movies in high definition. Capture impressive video even in low-light settings, thanks to the advanced backside illumination sensor and built-in LED light. Then edit and create your own mini-masterpiece right on iPhone 4 using the iMovie app — with Apple-designed themes, titles, and transitions. It’s available on the App Store for $4.99.

5-Megapixel Camera with LED Flash

Take beautiful, detailed photos using the 5-megapixel camera with built-in LED flash. The advanced backside illumination sensor captures great pictures even in low light. And the front-facing camera makes it easy to take self-portraits.

New technology subject rankings show worldwide options for international students

Engineering and information technology, the first subjects to be analysed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, are popular with students, who appreciate the good careers they can lead to. Politicians, too, appreciate their importance. They supply the skilled people needed by manufacturing, which despite the growing importance of service industries remains a key source of prosperity and of well-paid jobs in export industries.
These five tables reveal that ambitious, internationally-mobile students of these subjects are likely to find themselves boarding a flight for the United States. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is top on all five measures. As well as MIT, we see the big names of the US East and West coasts, including Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech and Harvard, in prominent positions.
But a detailed look at the tables shows that in practice, student choice is not so clear-cut. In chemical engineering, 25 of the universities in our top 50 are in the US, but the other 25 are not. For civil engineering, only 15 are in the US. Even for computing, 29 of the top 50 are not in the nation that gave us IBM, Google, Microsoft and Apple. For electrical engineering, 30 of the top 50 are outside the US, and for mechanical engineering, 27.
So these tables point towards universities that might provide high-quality engineering training for less eye-watering sums than study at MIT and its US rivals involves.
And whilst MIT is regarded by the academics in our survey as top in all five of these subjects, theirs is only one view. Employers see Cambridge – the one in the UK – as the world’s best place to recruit computer graduates. In chemical and civil engineering, they prefer both Oxford and Cambridge in the UK to MIT. For mechanical and electrical engineers, they prefer Harvard.
Because all the subjects we cover here are essential to major industries, many countries beyond the UK and the US regard it as a priority to be academically strong in them. Switzerland manufactures everything from watches to railway engines, not to mention many of the world’s pharmaceuticals. So it is no surprise to see its top institution, ETH, in position 10 or 11 in all five of these rankings and its Francophone opposite number, EPFL, not far behind. As with the overall World University Rankings, ETH emerges here as the world’s top university that does not work mainly in English.
Despite the prominent position of Cambridge (top in the 2010 World University Rankings), Harvard, Oxford and their ilk, it is apparent from these tables that not all the best engineering happens at the top institutions. While the Australian National University is present in four of these tables, Sydney and Melbourne are the nation’s leaders in these subjects and that Australia has strength in depth in all five.
One approach to using these tables is to think about where you might want to make your career in industry, or at least start it. The rapid rise of the Indian IT industry, for example, might just make the seven Indian institutions we list for computing attractive. Two are in our top 50. All are well-liked by employers. By contrast, a look at all five tables shows only three German universities in the top 50 in all subjects, a surprising result for one of the world’s top manufacturing nations. China manages ten.
However, this approach requires some caution. Like doctors, engineers kill people when they make mistakes. So like doctors, they need to be certified by some professional body, such as the UK’s various chartered institutes of engineering. Before applying for a course abroad, make sure that the degree you get will be regarded as valid by the authorities back home.
Don't forget, too, that these subjects are among the most widespread academic disciplines. All the institutions listed here are in the top 200 for their excellence in teaching and research. Whatever their position, they are very good at the subject in question.
These tables are bound to be helpful to students wanting to find a top degree in these subjects, in a country they want to be in and at a price they can afford. They show excellence in the developing world, especially in Latin America, and in Asian middle-income nations such as India, Singapore, Korea and Taiwan. So there may be unexpected places to get a top engineering education.
Because engineering changes the world – think of the rise of the web – these tables are bound to be of interest to policy-makers and funders. Companies are thinking globally about where they recruit and where they spend their research budgets, while governments want to know that their universities are producing enough skilled people. This is good news for you as a student. In the past, many engineering employers have thought of recruiting mainly in national terms. Now they may become more global, offering opportunities to graduates from well-regarded programmes around the world.
